JetBlue Reconnects FLL with Philadelphia, Guayaquil

DALLAS — In Fort Lauderdale, JetBlue (B6) is celebrating its return, reinstating two nonstop routes and reconnecting South Florida to Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE) in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Starting in July 2025, these year-round services will complement B6’s expanding East Coast and Latin America network and reinforce its position at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).

Strategic Route Reinstatement

The announcement comes as two routes, which were previously suspended during network changes, return. This reintroduction is part of a broader effort by B6 to capture leisure and VFR (visiting friends and family) demand in key markets.

These additions, Daniel Shurz, B6’s head of revenue, network, and enterprise planning, said, are part of a strategy:  “With direct access from Philadelphia and Guayaquil via Fort Lauderdale, we’re not only making it easier for more customers to reach their favorite vacation destination, but their family and friends too, while solidifying JetBlue’s position as a carrier of choice in South Florida.”

Fort Lauderdale Focus Grows

B6's presence at FLL continues expanding aggressively, as the carrier now provides over 70 daily flights to more than 30 destinations. This upcoming summer season, the airline will run the highest quantity of flights to the Caribbean and Latin America from FLL compared to any other carrier. Departures from the airport have grown 6% year-over-year, and lie-flat seats have surged over 60% versus last summer, underscoring B6's persistent investment in premium service for long-haul leisure routes.

The expansion highlights the airline's multi-faceted strategy to enhance its network across the East Coast through both transcontinental routes within the United States and profitable international routes aimed at vacationers. The new Philadelphia route will support internal transit within the country, while the Guayaquil link will enable the airline to access the travel market between South America and sunny Florida.

Schedule, Aircraft

The Philadelphia service is scheduled to resume on July 3, 2025, with two daily flights to accommodate both business professionals and leisure tourists. Departure and arrival times have been carefully planned to facilitate simple connections and day excursions in both directions. Regarding the Guayaquil route, which is set to relaunch on July 17, it will operate with a single daily flight aimed at meeting the demand from friends and relatives visiting from abroad, as well as international travelers looking to enjoy their vacations.

Reinforced Commitment to Ecuador

The reintroduction of flights to Guayaquil signifies that B6 is reinvesting in Ecuador, a pivotal country for its Latin American operations. Although the GYE route was temporarily halted due to fleet adjustments and schedule changes, the airline's loyal Ecuadorian clients consistently advocated for its return. Now that aircraft are more readily available and global travel is flourishing once again, B6 sees this as the perfect moment to re-enter the market with a solution specifically designed for sustainability in both the short and long term.

Pending final approval from authorities, once granted, the flights to Ecuador will help meet leisure needs and serve the Ecuadorian expatriate community in South Florida, a segment showing strong demand for nonstop connections.
