GURGAON — IndiGo (6E) has become the first Indian airline to induct the Airbus A321XLR into service, marking a milestone in its international expansion strategy.
The first aircraft, one of 40 on firm order, arrived in Delhi on January 7, 2026, and will debut on new nonstop services from Mumbai and Delhi to Athens beginning later this month.
The A321XLR gives IndiGo the range to operate up to 8,700 km, opening long-haul opportunities previously out of reach for a single-aisle aircraft. IndiGo plans to deploy further aircraft on routes such as Istanbul and Denpasar (Bali) before expanding deeper into Europe and East Asia.
The aircraft features a dual-class layout, with 12 IndiGoStretch premium seats and 183 Economy seats, all supplied by RECARO with enhanced recline, power outlets and device holders.
IndiGo expects delivery of nine A321XLRs in 2026.
