DALLAS — Vietnam Airlines (VN), the national carrier of Vietnam, took delivery of its fifth Boeing 787-10 and 30th wide-body aircraft in its fleet. As part of the fleet modernization, eight Boeing 787-10s were leased from Air Lease Corporation (ALC), of which three are yet to be delivered.
The aircraft, carrying the registration VN-A878, touched down in Hanoi on 31 July 2024 at 0738 local time. It has a two-class configuration, with 24 business-class seats and 343 economy-class seats. With this latest addition to the fleet, VN can meet the increased demand during peak summer travel.
The airline operates its wide-bodies on international routes connecting Vietnam to the United States, Europe, Northeast Asia, and Southeast Asia, mainly from Hanoi (HAN) and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN).
Vietnam Airlines Fleet
Currently, VN has approximately 93 aircraft in its fleet, 30 of which are widebody aircraft and the rest narrowbody aircraft. The airline has 14 Airbus A350-900s and 11 Boeing 787-9s as the other widebodies.
However, the narrowbody fleet consists of Airbus A320 family aircraft, with 62 A321s and 1 A320neo. With a recent order of 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, Airbus's narrowbody dominance is expected to end soon.
As a prominent carrier in Southeast Asia, VN serves 97 routes to 21 domestic and 29 international destinations. Throughout its 30-year history, the airline has led Vietnam's domestic aviation business, which is one of the world's fastest expanding, with double-digit yearly growth rates.
Vietnam Airlines aims to be a 5-star, leading Asian airline by positioning itself as a modern airline with an internationally recognized brand thanks to its wide-body aircraft fleet.
