The Weather Company Launches Flight Tracking App

DALLAS – It seems right that The Weather Company would launch a flight tracking app. The app, called Maverick Dispatch, is an AI-powered weather and flight tracking solution already used by Breeze Airways (MX) and Horizon Air (QX).

The SaaS-based platform, which combines forecast technology and expertise with artificial intelligence, is poised to change how aviation dispatchers handle mission-critical weather and operational data and “help airlines anticipate and respond to weather-related challenges, enhancing operational efficiency and safety.”

Garrett Urry, manager of flight dispatch at MX, said, “The reduced alert fatigue and contextual highlighting of critical information means our team spends less time hunting for data and more time making smart decisions that benefit our Guests.”

Developed in collaboration with leading airlines for faster real-time decision making, key capabilities of the app include:

  • Advanced Weather Visualization: The Weather Company’s proprietary Global High-Resolution Atmospheric Forecasting (GRAF) system offers comprehensive weather impacts through intuitive mapping technology.
  • AI-driven Insights: Predictive models for terminal airspace convective risk (TrACR), airport capacity insights, and taxi time analytics help airline operators anticipate and recover more quickly from operational disruptions, reducing costs.
  • Unified Cloud Platform: SaaS-based architecture ensures consistent access across teams for expert oversight and rapid feature deployment.
  • Streamlined Workflows: Intelligent alert management and integrated data visualization reduce cognitive load.

“Where Seconds Count”

“In today’s complex aviation environment, dispatchers are overwhelmed with data but starved for actionable intelligence,” said Sheri Bachstein, president of The Weather Company.

The executive added, “While others are reducing their spend in aviation technology, we’re accelerating efforts. Maverick Dispatch transforms fragmented data streams into clear, contextual insights that enable faster, more informed decision-making.”

“In an environment where seconds count, Maverick Dispatch is streamlining and simplifying flight tracking and weather awareness on the dispatch desk,” said Kenneth McNaught, dispatch manager at Horizon Air, a regional subsidiary of Alaska Air Group that operates in challenging weather conditions across the western U.S.

“Leveraging the advanced weather forecasting and tools of The Weather Company into this updated platform is sure to become another game changer from this innovative company helping us to become safer and more efficient as an airline.”

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
