DALLAS — Ravn Alaska (7H) will suspend scheduled services to Unalaska (DUT), Cold Bay (CDB) and Sand Point (SDP) on August 16.
The airlinesays it has been forced to drop these services due to a need to optimize operations. The carrier will focus on building services to other destinations in Alaska. However, Ravn will still operate flights from ANC to Homer (HOM), Valdez (VDZ), St. Paul Island (SNP) and Unalakleet (UNK).
“This change comes as part of a broader initiative to optimize operations and ensure long-term sustainability and growth for the airline. By reallocating resources and capacity, Ravn Alaska/New Pacific Airlines aims to enhance service reliability and customer satisfaction across its core network,” the carrier said in a statement.
Impacting Local Communities
Being one of only two commercial airlines offering regular passenger services from ANC to the Aleutian Islands, the scrapping of these services is a loss for communities living in the islands. 7H’s decision to scrap these routes leaves Aleutian Airways (VC) as the only airline with scheduled passenger flights from ANC to DUT, SDP, and CDB.
“This was not an easy decision, but it is a necessary step in our long-term strategy to strengthen the overall success of our airline. This shift allows us to concentrate on routes where we can make the most significant impact,” Ravn Alaska said.
On its website, 7H says it will issue refunds to ticket holders, which will be processed by the end of the month. “Refunds will be processed within 14 business days from the suspension date (Aug. 16),” the page says.
