LEVEL Secures AOC, Its Own Airline Code

DALLAS – Spanish low-cost carrier LEVEL (IB) has obtained an Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) and Operating Licence (OL) in Spain.

The low-cost carrier (LCC) will commence operations under its new code, LL, next year.

With this newly acquired certification, the Barcelona-based (BCN) airline, an Iberia (IB) subsidiary, will be able to grow and operate more autonomously.

Until the transition is complete, LEVEL will continue to operate under the IB code, which its major shareholder uses.

Expansion Plans On The Horizon

Having its certification will enable the long-haul budget airline to develop its route network and grow its fleet. The LCC currently operates six Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

However, plans are to add two more to the fleet. LL should receive another A330-200 aircraft in the next few weeks, and another one is expected to join the fleet in 2026.

The carrier currently operates long-haul services from Spain to North and South America destinations.

Existing routes to the United States include Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA), and New York (JFK). The airline also offers seasonal flights to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO).

Additionally, the LCC flies to Buenos Aires (EZE) and Santiago de Chile (SCL) in South America. Though the airline is scheduled to receive new aircraft, it has yet to announce any new routes it intends to operate shortly.

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
