Kuwait Airways to Relocate JFK Operations to T6

DALLAS — Kuwait Airways (KU) has announced that it will move its operations from Terminal 7 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to the yet-to-be completedTerminal 6 (T6) in 2026. This move marks a significant modernization effort at the Airport.

Kuwait Airways joins 12 international airlines, including Norse Atlantic Airways (N0), Air Canada (AC), ANA (NH), Austrian Airlines (OS), Brussels Airlines (SN), Cathay Pacific (CX), Aer Lingus (EI), Condor (DE), JetBlue (B6), Lufthansa (LH), and SWISS (LX), in selecting T6 as their new home at JFK.

For over 40 years, JFK has been KU’s primary gateway to North America. The airline operates year-round flights between New York and Kuwait using Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A330-800 aircraft. The transition to T6 will enhance the passenger experience with modern amenities and improved efficiency.

A New Era for JFK Terminal 6

T6 is a key component of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion JFK redevelopment plan, which aims to transform the airport into a world-class hub. The project includes a new terminal, modernization of existing facilities, and upgrades of roadways and transportation networks.

Designed in two phases, T6 will open its first six gates in 2026 and fully complete by 2028. The terminal will feature 10 gates, including nine designed for widebody aircraft, making it an ideal base for international carriers like KU. Passengers will benefit from streamlined customs and border control, advanced TSA security screening, and an upgraded baggage system.

JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), a consortium that includes Vantage Group, American Triple I, RXR, and JetBlue, oversees the project. Once completed, T6 will integrate seamlessly with Terminal 5, creating a unified passenger experience on JFK’s north side.

Last October, JMP invited Airways to tour the T6 construction site and later participate in the celebration of the final steel beam topping-off ceremony. You can see the expansive facilities and ceremony in the video below.

Enhanced Passenger Experience

The move to T6 promises a significantly upgraded airport experience for KU passengers. The terminal will feature:

  • Efficient Design: A digital-first layout with reduced walking distances—an average of five minutes from security to all gates.
  • Premium Amenities: Over 100,000 square feet of NYC-inspired retail, dining, and premium airline lounges.
  • Cultural Elements: A curated public art collection in collaboration with the Public Art Fund.
  • Sustainability Features: Eco-friendly materials, solar panels, and energy-efficient systems with LEED Silver or Gold certification goals.

With its cutting-edge facilities and sustainability focus, T6 will provide KU passengers with a world-class travel experience.

Strategic Expansion for KU

Kuwait Airways’s relocation aligns with its broader efforts to modernize and expand its global operations across Europe, Asia, and North America. The move will improve connectivity, streamline operations, and elevate service standards for passengers traveling between the U.S. and the Middle East.

Steve Thody, CEO of JFK Millennium Partners, stated, "We are delighted that Kuwait Airways has chosen T6 for its future New York operations. This is an exciting new chapter in our partnership with Kuwait, a valued T7 airline since 2022."

As airlines transition to T6, JFK will strengthen its role as a global hub, improving efficiency, passenger comfort, and international connectivity.
