Icelandair Becomes the Latest Airbus Operator

DALLAS — Today, Keflavik-based Icelandair (FI) became the latest Airbus operator with the delivery of the first A321LR for the airline.

The flag carrier of Iceland has leased four A321LR aircraft from SMBC Aviation Capital Limited and will also receive 13 A321XLRs as part of its fleet renewal process.

The Airbus A321LR has an extended range of up to 4,000 nautical miles and delivers at least 20% fuel savings and CO₂ reduction compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft, which makes it suitable for transatlantic routes.

Powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, the A321LR has 187 seats in a two-class configuration and features XL bins for more stowage space. It offers advanced gate-to-gate connectivity, next-generation inflight entertainment, and a lighting system that enhances passenger "well-being."

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
