EVA Air Launches New Premium Economy Seats

DALLAS — Taiwanese carrier EVA Air (BR) has unveiled its all-new Premium Economy Class on its brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. This is the airline’s fourth-generation Premium Economy Class.

The airline plans to upgrade the passengers' experience from “upgraded economy” to “business-class-like.” BR introduced its first Premium Economy Class in 1992, making it the first carrier to introduce the Premium Economy cabin, known as Evergreen Deluxe Class.

Eva Air’s fourth-generation Premium Economy Class seats are 28 in a 2-3-2 configuration. With a seat pitch of 42 inches, these seats use a cradle motion recline, which allows the seat to slide forward and upward simultaneously. The seats come with 15.6-inch high-resolution widescreen monitors, a holder for personal devices, and 110V AC and USB combo power outlets.

Eva Air’s new design of Premium Economy Class seats also prioritizes privacy. The headrests have side privacy panels and built-in reading lights. The headrests, armrests, and footrests are made of premium leather. The armrests have adequate storage spaces, and a dedicated bottle holder allows passengers to store and access their personal belongings easily. BR aims to provide passengers with a luxurious and enjoyable experience with these features.

The airline's Premium Economy Class, uniquely found on its Boeing 777-300ER fleet, offers 38 inches of seat pitch in a 2-4-2 configuration and an 11-inch in-flight entertainment monitor.

Dreamliner Premium Economy Seat Debut

EVA Air's new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fitted with the new seats will debut on the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)—Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK).

Subsequently, it will be deployed on flights from Taipei (TPE) to Munich (MUC) and Milan (MXP), and it will also offer direct non-stop flights to Vienna (VIE) and San Francisco (SFO) in the future.

“As the world’s first airline to launch Premium Economy Class, BR has consistently focused on innovation driven by passenger needs and setting industry trends. The fourth-generation seats retain the core philosophy of previous generations while enhancing comfort, fashion, and functionality, showcasing our commitment to service innovation and attention to detail, ” said Eva Air President Clay Sun.

EVA Air will introduce eight more Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners in the three-class configuration, which features 278 seats, including 26 in business class, 28 in premium economy class, and 224 in economy class. Compared to the previous version of Boeing 787-9, which features 304 seats, it includes 26 in business class and 278 in economy class.

The Taiwanese carrier also expects to take delivery of 5 more Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners in the two-class configuration by 2029. Aside from the Dreamliner, BR will introduce 18 wide-body Airbus A350-1000 aircraft from 2027 and the narrow-body Airbus A321neo aircraft from 2029.
