Brisbane Airport Introduces New Security Screening

BRISBANE — Brisbane Airport (BNE) has officially opened its newly completed northern screening point in the Domestic Terminal, the first significant achievement in its multi-year terminal redevelopment program. The upgrade features state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (CT) scanning lanes called Standard 3 technology, furthering security and improving passenger convenience.

Effortless Passenger Experience

Starting October 28, passengers on Qantas flights will enjoy five new screening lanes with larger trays, automated tray return units, and quicker processing times. The CT scanners now allow passengers to leave laptops and aerosols in their bags, reducing queues and improving efficiency during busy times.

"We are really looking forward to passengers getting to test this new screening area," said Stacey Pollard, Terminal Operations Head at BNE. "Having the option to keep laptops and aerosols in bags will make a big difference for regular passengers."

Increasing Capacity, Future Enhancements

Construction is also well advanced on a new mezzanine floor in the middle of the terminal, which will feature an extra ten lanes. Due to open in time for Christmas, the mezzanine —the same size as four tennis courts —will reduce the travel experience for passengers with no checked bags, providing direct access from the Skywalk to departing gates.

The same screening improvements are being delivered in BNE's International Terminal and are due for completion by the end of the year.

The project is part of the airport's USD$5 billion Future BNE development, which aims to make the airport more efficient, secure, and passenger-friendly throughout the whole precinct.
