DALLAS — Avianca Cargo (QT) concluded its Mother’s Day 2025 season on a high note, transporting over 20,100 tons of fresh flowers—a 15% increase compared to last year.
The record-setting shipments originated from Colombia and Ecuador and reached destinations across North America and Europe. Back in February, QT shipped flowers at a record-breaking pace for Valentine's Day 2025.
Avianca Cargo boasts it doubled its operational capacity, expanded critical infrastructure, and delivered 24/7 flower service across strategic terminals without disrupting its broader operations to meet the heightened seasonal demand.
The cargo carrier was the first airline in the Americas to receive CEIV Fresh certification, and perishable transport accounts for over 50% of its cargo operations.
Avianca Cargo primarily operates Airbus A330 freighters for these routes. The fleet includes A330-200F and A330-300P2F (passenger-to-freighter) models, which are well-suited for transporting perishable goods like flowers and oversized cargo.

Comments from Avianca Cargo CEO, Miami-Dade Commissioner
“Mother’s Day is one of the most important seasons for the flower industry, and we are proud to once again fulfill our commitment. We celebrate a historic record that reaffirms our market position and leadership as the flower carrier of the season between Colombia and the United States," said Diogo Elias, CEO of Avianca Cargo.
"Thanks to all our key stakeholders and clients, we recognize each of these 20,100 tons as a shared achievement.”
Miami International Airport (MIA)has been key for AV’s Mother’s Day operations, serving as the primary gateway for flower imports into the US.
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Raquel Regalado said, “Almost every flower that will be touched by a mother or grandmother in the United States came through Miami International Airport and through Avianca. And that’s why today we celebrate the partnership, the infrastructure, and focus on the different points throughout the supply chain.”
