DALLAS — After a four-year hiatus, American Airlines (AA) will resume its longest regularly scheduled domestic route.
On Oct. 26, AA will fly again between Chicago and Honolulu, covering 4,243 miles. The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline last operated this service in September 2021.
The airline’s longest domestic flight today is the 3,784-mile hop from Dallas/Fort Worth to Honolulu. The carrier used to operate a service from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Honolulu.
Aircraft, Schedule Details
According to airlinegeeks.com, little is known about frequencies, though a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner will fly the route daily. United Airlines (UA) also flies the route, with as many as two daily flights between the cities.
The return of AA’s ORD-HNL route follows the airline’s expansion strategy from its Chicago hub.
Last week, the carrier revealed new and returning long-haul services to Madrid, Spain, and Naples, Italy. The airline said it plans to operate up to 480 daily flights at O’Hare this summer, a 25% increase in seat capacity from last summer.
