LONDON — The first Embraer E190-E2 is making its first public appearance this week at the 2016 Farnborough Air Show. The new generation of regional jets arrived to the U.K. after a 12 hour and 40 minute flight from São José dos Campos in Brazil, with technical stops in Recife and Cape Verde for refueling.“The flight was very smooth and went according to plan. Crossing the Atlantic at this stage of the flight test campaign is another great demonstration of the E190-E2 maturity, and it shows we are on the right path to a very successful program,” said Luís Carlos Affonso, COO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. The first public presentation of the E190-E2 takes place four months and a half after the rollout, and less than 45 days after its first flight ahead of schedule. In a recent Program Update, Embraer informed that the first aircraft has logged 59 hours and 23 flights since its maiden sortie, further complemented by 18,000 hours of tests on rigs and simulation on a virtual aircraft. Also, the airframer informed that the second E190-E2 prototype flew for the first time last Friday July 8th during 2 hours and 55 minutes and will now join the flight test and certification program. After the show, the aircraft will return to Brazil to continue the certification campaign, which remains on track ahead of its enter into service (EIS) during the first half of 2018.

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
