Turkish Airlines Finalizes 100-Jet 737-8 Order With 50 Options

ISTANBUL — Turkish Airlines (TK) has finalized a firm order for 100 Boeing 737-8 aircraft and taken options for 50 more 737 MAX jets, completing an agreement that remained contingent on engine negotiations when the carrier outlined it in 2025.

The airline told Türkiye's Public Disclosure Platform that deliveries are scheduled between 2033 and 2037. Its board made the purchase decision on September 18, five days before the public announcement.

Boeing and Turkish Airlines marked the agreement in New York in the presence of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The manufacturer described the transaction as the carrier's largest Boeing single-aisle order.

The agreement also gives Turkish Airlines substitution rights for the 737-10, the largest member of the MAX family. Neither Boeing's release nor the airline's market filing divides the 50 options between the 737-8 and 737-10, and neither source discloses a price.

CFM condition cleared for the firm order

Turkish Airlines announced the outline of the MAX transaction in September 2025, alongside an order for up to 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Although negotiations with Boeing were complete, the airline said the MAX order would be placed only after successful talks with engine manufacturer CFM International.

Reuters reported that a disagreement over long-term engine-maintenance terms delayed the deal and that Turkish Airlines had threatened to withdraw. The airline and Boeing did not disclose the final engine or maintenance terms in their September 23 announcements.

That chronology changes the status of the narrowbody plan Airways reported a year ago. The 100 737-8s are now a firm purchase; the other 50 aircraft remain options.

The 100-aircraft firm order exceeds a 70-aircraft firm order Turkish Airlines signed with Boeing in 2013. That earlier purchase covered 40 737-8s, ten 737-9s, and 20 Next-Generation 737-800s, with options for another 25 737-8s. Boeing called it the airline's largest order from the manufacturer at the time.

Deliveries follow the 787 order

The new 737-8s are due after the first aircraft in Turkish Airlines' 2025 Dreamliner agreement. That package covers 50 firm 787-9 and 787-10 aircraft and 25 options, with deliveries planned from 2029 to 2034.

Turkish Airlines and AJet together operate more than 200 Boeing aircraft across the 737 MAX, 737 Next-Generation, 777, 777 Freighter, and 787 families, according to Boeing.

"This agreement marks another significant step in the continued expansion of our fleet," said Murat Şeker, Turkish Airlines chairman of the board and executive committee. "The new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will bring greater efficiency and flexibility to our operations, supporting the extensive network we serve from our hub in Istanbul."

The reviewed airline filing and Boeing release do not say how quickly Turkish Airlines expects to take the 100 firm aircraft within the five-year delivery window.
