‍DALLAS – Thai AirAsia X (XJ) has announced that it will relocate all of its flight operations from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) to Don Mueang Airport (DMK) starting October 1, 2024. 

The relocation of XJ’s flights follows successful coordination with Airports of Thailand (AOT) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand. This move is intended to support the government's plan to establish Thailand as a regional aviation hub and improve connectivity for travelers.

"The return of Thai AirAsia X to Don Mueang Airport is a homecoming. We will be joining the strong and extensive AirAsia network, which has a domestic market share of over 40% in Thailand and a vibrant international network that encompasses Greater China, India and South Asia, Asean, and Japan for a total of 93 routes served by 1,250 flights a week to provide a wealth of opportunities for FlyThru services,” said Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, Chief Executive Officer of Thai AirAsia X.

Operating out of Don Mueang 

From October 1, XJ passengers traveling to Seoul (SEL), Tokyo (TYO), Osaka (OSA), Nagoya (NGO), Sapporo (SPK), Shanghai (SHA), and Sydney (SYD) will depart from DMK. However, not all services of XJ will operate out of DMK for the time being. 

Thai AirAsia (flight code FD) flights connecting BKK to Chiang Mai (CNX), Phuket (HKT), Krabi (KBV), Hat Yai (HDY), and Thai AirAsia X (flight code D7) flights to Kuala Lumpur (KUL) will continue to operate out of Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Thai AirAsia X currently operates a fleet of eight Airbus A330 aircraft, increasing to 11 aircraft by the end of 2024. The airline expects to receive 3-5 new aircraft annually to serve the sustainable growth strategy.

About Don Mueang Airport

Don Mueang Airport is the city’s older airport, which used to handle all domestic and international flights until 2006 when BKK was opened. While BKK handled most flights into the Thai capital, DMK did not close its doors. It continues to handle flights operated by many low-cost carriers in and out of the Thai Capital. 

For passengers booked on XJ services from October 1 onwards, the airline will automatically adjust flights to DMK. From August 1 onwards, passengers will receive a notification by email, SMS, or the contact channel provided to the airline with appropriate offers and advice on its relocation to Don Mueang Airport.
