DALLAS — Boeing and Japan Airlines (JL) today announced an agreement for up to 20 more 787 Dreamliners. The deal includes 10 Boeing 787-9s with options for 10 more, making this the four announced order for the American giant, tallying up up 48 aircraft so far.
Following the completion of this order and its posting on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website, JAL will have 10 787s and 21 737 MAX aircraft on order, expanding its present fleet of more than 50 of the well-liked widebody aircraft.
Boeing says that the Dreamliner's adaptability has allowed JL to open up additional point-to-point markets recently, including San Diego, Bangalore, and Boston, from Tokyo. The Boeing release also states that more than 400 additional nonstop routes have been added by the 787 family since revenue service started in 2011. Over 1,900 orders have been placed by 87 customers, with over half of those being repeat customers like JL, which flies the 787-8 and 787-9.
