DALLAS — Aeromexico (AM) released its operational results for September 2024, showcasing a positive growth trend primarily driven by its international market.
The airline transported nearly 2 million passengers, representing a 1.5% year-over-year increase compared to September 2023.
Key Highlights:
- Passenger Numbers: AM saw an impressive 15.8% rise in international passengers, reaching 603,000, while domestic passenger numbers fell by 3.7% to 1.38 million.
- Capacity Expansion: Total capacity, measured by available seat kilometers (ASKs), rose by 9.5%. International ASKs surged by 16.9%, reflecting Aeromexico's strategic focus on global routes—however, domestic capacity dipped by 3.4%.
- Increased Demand: Overall demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs), jumped 11.7% year-over-year, with international demand increasing by 18.8%, offsetting a 1.4% decline in the domestic market.
- Load Factor: AM's load factor—a key metric that measures how effectively an airline fills seats—reached 87.5%, a 1.7 percentage point increase from September 2023. International and domestic load factors rose by 1.5 and 1.8 percentage points, respectively.
Cumulative 2024 Performance
As of September 2024, AM has transported over 19 million passengers, a 3.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023. While domestic travel remains slightly lower (-2.2%), international travel has grown by 17.7%, reflecting the airline's strengthening position in global markets.
Aeromexico's increased focus on international routes is evident, with capacity and demand showing substantial year-over-year growth in this sector.
Despite declining domestic performance, the overall results indicate the Mexican flag carrier’s presence abroad is paying off.
