‍Hong Kong Airlines to Launch Melbourne Service

HONG KONG — Hong Kong Airlines (HX) will launch nonstop flights from Hong Kong to Melbourne from December 12, 2025. The airline's Airbus A330-300s will operate the three-per-week service with 24 lie-flat business class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration and 279 economy seats.

The launch comes after HX's recent expansion into Australia, including the return to the Gold Coast and the launch of Sydney flights earlier this year. Speaking at a launch ceremony in Melbourne, HX President Jeff Sun referred to the new route as a "crucial milestone" in HX's expansion outside mainland China.

Boost to Connectivity, Competition

Melbourne Airport CEO Lorie Argus pointed out that HX's arrival would enhance connectivity to Asia and improve passenger choice. The airport considers Hong Kong its fourth-largest international market in terms of volume.

Hong Kong Airlines operates to more than 30 destinations on its international network. Flights depart from HKG in the late evening and return from MEL in the mid-afternoon.
