DALLAS – Doha-based Hamad International Airport (DOH) achieved a major milestone in 2024, increasing passenger handling by 15% compared with 2023. Aircraft movements also rose to 279,000 for the year. This represents a 10% year-on-year increase. Furthermore, a total of 2.6 million tons of cargo was handled at DOH in 2024. This is an increase of 12% compared with the previous year.
The Middle East airport processed over four million travelers every month, in 2024. In addition, DOH handled over 12 million point-to-point passengers in 2024. This increase is driven by Doha’s growing desirability as a tourist destination. Local passenger numbers also increased by 16% for the first time - rising faster than DOH’s transfer traffic. The airport also processed 41.3 million bags last year.
“Our record-breaking achievements underscore our vision of establishing Qatar as a premier global hub for connectivity, commerce, and tourism. These results highlight our operational efficiency, consistent pursuit of innovation, and unwavering commitment to delivering an exceptional passenger experience.” Hamad International Airport Chief Operating Officer, Hamad Ali Al-Khater said.
Expanded Connectivity
DOH is home to Qatar’s national carrier, Qatar Airways (QR). DOH’s hub carrier QR added several new destinations to its route network in 2024, including Osaka (OSA), Hamburg (HAM), Lisbon (LIS) and Toronto (YTO).
DOH thus expanded its global reach in 2024. The airport now connects directly to 197 destinations, with 55 carriers. It has various new airline partners including China Southern Airlines (CZ), Shenzhen Airlines (ZH), Japan Airlines (JL), Garuda Indonesia (GA) and Akasa Air (QP).
Passenger volumes showed strong growth across both eastern and western markets. Traffic to China rose by 87%, while emerging markets in Asia, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam, also showed strong growth. Mature European markets, including the UK, Germany, Spain, and France, achieved double-digit growth.
