China Southern, Air Serbia Ink Codeshare Agreement

DALLAS — China Southern Airlines (CZ) and Air Serbia (JU) have signed a codeshare agreement in Guangzhou. The deal aims to improve air connectivity between the two countries. The move will also explore commercial collaboration opportunities and potential joint investments.

Under the codeshare, CZ places its marketing code on the Serbian flag carrier’s nonstop Belgrade-Guangzhou and Belgrade-Shanghai flights. This move will offer good connections for Chinese passengers via Belgrade to 21 European destinations, including Berlin, Milan, Zurich, and Bologna.

Likewise, the ‘JU’ code will designate flight numbers to CZ’s nonstop flights between Guangzhou and Belgrade. This will provide passengers with seamless connectivity via Guangzhou to 20 destinations in the airline’s network, including Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Singapore, Phuket, Bangkok, Seoul, Jakarta, and Kuala Lumpur.

Comments from Air Serbia CEO

Jiří Marek, Air Serbia CEO, said, “Over three months ago, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Southern Airlines, aiming to improve our partnership and the connectivity between Serbia and China. The introduction of direct routes between Belgrade and Guangzhou and Shanghai has opened further possibilities in the form of additional destinations across the networks of the two airlines, via Guangzhou and Belgrade.”

“We will continue to search for opportunities to strengthen and expand our cooperation, with the goal of offering our passengers new travel options and enabling them to reach far-away destinations quicker and easier.”

Air Serbia and CZ signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September 2024. In addition to the now official codeshare, this document entailed further cooperation, MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) services, ground handling services, cargo operation, and catering.
