MIAMI — Holy Week is one of the busiest travel periods in Colombia and the region, so Avianca (AV) is preparing to serve thousands of travelers seeking leisure, family gatherings, and cultural or religious experiences.
From March 27 to April 6, AV expects to operate over 8,300 flights and offer more than 1.4 million seats across 150 routes. The airline will connect over 80 destinations in the Americas and Europe, enabling travel to more than 27 countries.
The seasonal push, however, comes amid a broader travel environment that extends beyond airline capacity announcements.
The U.S. State Department currently lists Colombia under a Level 3 “Reconsider Travel” advisory. The advisory does not mean Colombia is closed to tourism. Rather, it signals that travelers should weigh the risks carefully. Additionally, the CDC continues to maintain a travel health notice tied to yellow fever in parts of the country.
Colombian authorities also require travelers to complete the Check-Mig preregistration before entering or leaving the country by air.
Travel tips for the Easter holiday season
To ensure a smooth travel experience during this busy season, AV recommends the following tips:
- Prevent fraud when making purchases: Use official channels such as avianca.com, lifemiles.com, the contact center, points of sale, or authorized agencies for secure transactions. Be cautious of offers that seem too good to be true, as unusually low prices on social media or messaging platforms may indicate fraud. Always verify the website URL before making payments. If you have doubts about the authenticity of messages or offers, email prevenciondefraude@avianca.com for verification.
- Check flight status: Review your flight status on avianca.com, in the Avianca app, or via email and WhatsApp notifications.
- Check in in advance: Complete check-in starting 48 hours before your flight, or 24 hours prior for flights to or from the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada.
- Arrive at the airport early: Arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights to avoid delays.
- Verify travel documents: Confirm in advance that all required travel documents are valid and in order, including passports, visas, or any certificates required by your destination.
- Review baggage conditions: Check the baggage included in your fare. Remember, electronic devices and lithium batteries, such as power banks, must be carried in the aircraft cabin for safety.
