MIAMI — As previously reported by Airways, JetBlue has operated its first weekly charter flights between New York and Havana, Cuba's capital city. The airline becomes the first major carrier to operate the route since the lightening of travel restrictions between the United States and the Caribbean island.

The New York-Havana charter service was announced in May after a trade mission trip to Cuba led by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and joined by JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes and other New York businessmen, in order to open a dialogue channel to connect the Empire State businesses to new opportunities in Cuba.

"JetBlue already has a proven track record of providing outstanding service to the Caribbean and has operated a series of successful charters to Cuba since 2011," said Scott Laurence, senior vice president airline planning at JetBlue. Since its first charter flight to Havana in September 2011, JetBlue has added four weekly service to Havana from Tampa and Ft.
