Vietnam Airlines to Launch Hanoi-Phnom Penh Flights

DALLAS — Vietnam Airlines (VN) has announced its plan to operate direct flights between Hanoi (HAN) and Phnom Penh (PNH) starting from October 27, 2024. This new route aims to streamline travel between the two capitals, offering greater convenience for business and leisure travelers alike.

The Vietnamese flag carrier will operate four round-trip flights per week on an Airbus A321 aircraft. Flights will be operated on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, providing passengers with increased flexibility.

Previously, passengers traveling between the two capitals with VN needed to connect through Vientiane (VTE), Laos. This new direct route eliminates the need for a connecting flight, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing the overall travel experience.

Boosting Tourism, Regional Cooperation

This announcement comes alongside VN’s' commitment to fostering stronger ties between Vietnam and Cambodia. The airline has signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with key players in Cambodia's tourism sector, including Cambodia Angkor Air (KM), the Cambodian Tourism Association, and the Vietnamese travel company Saigontourist Group.

This collaboration aims to promote tourism in both countries through coordinated marketing activities and mutual support of services and products.

On average, approximately 450,000 passengers travel by air between the two nations annually, with a staggering 24% yearly growth rate observed over the past three decades, as reported by Viet Nam News.

In 2023 alone, over one million Vietnamese tourists visited Cambodia, while more than 400,000 Cambodians explored Vietnam.

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
