Spirit Joins NYSE American After Bankruptcy Exit

DALLAS — After delisting from the NYSE’s main board in November 2024 amid its Chapter 11 proceedings, Spirit Aviation Holdings, parent company of Spirit Airlines (NK), has announced that its common stock has been approved for listing on the NYSE American stock exchange.

This is good news for the Dania Beach, Florida carrier, as it signals the market’s renewed confidence in NK’s successful emergence from Chapter 11 restructuring and its long-term financial stability.

Over time, the higher profile and credibility afforded by a NYSE American listing may also support partnerships and codeshare agreements, helping NK to compete more effectively in the ultra-low-cost segment, which the budget airline remains a part of despite its Go Comfy bundle offering: a guaranteed blocked middle seat achieved not by removing the seat but by locking a tray table upright, rendering the middle seat unusable.

Last week, NK appointed Dave Davis as President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board. Davis said today, "Listing our common stock on the NYSE American is an important next step in Spirit's continued transformation as we remain focused on returning to profitability and positioning our airline for long-term success."

Trading is expected to begin on April 29, 2025, at market open under the symbol FLYY.
