DALLAS — Silver Airways (3M) has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida..
In a letter to customers,3M said, "This decision will allow us to secure additional capital and undertake a financial restructuring that will strengthen our position as a competitive airline..."
Silver Airways assured all tickets remain valid and would continue operating as usual. Flights can still be booked through the company's website or other channels, and tickets purchased through any other airline or agency will still be honored.
The carrier, based at Tampa International Airport (TPA), operates nearly 100 daily scheduled flights from TPA and its Ft. Lauderdale (FLL), Orlando (MCO), and San Juan (SJU) gateways.
Silver operates the French-built ATR42 & ATR72 turboprop aircraft for scheduled flights throughout the Caribbean and domestically as far north as South Carolina and Louisiana from their South Florida hubs.
Under new CEO Steve Rossum, Silver had looked like it had navigated the stormy COVID seas to emerge stronger and leaner. However, in 2023, a terminated agreement with Amazon and a possible eviction from its passenger facilities at its FLL hub from lack of payment of fees dating back to 2021 were signs that this would not be the case.
The airline expects to complete the restructuring process by the end of Q1 2025.
