Qatar Airways Boosts South Africa Flights in Q126

DOHA — Qatar Airways (QR) will scale up flights to South Africa with additional frequencies to Cape Town (CPT), Johannesburg (JNB), and Durban (DUR).

The Doha-based (DOH) airline already operates an extensive schedule to the country. However, additional flights will increase QR's total weekly flights to South Africa from 35 to 42, providing greater flexibility for passengers connecting from South Africa to Qatar Airways’ network.

Weekly flights between DOH and JNB will increase from 18 to 21 (starting February 18), while flights between DOH and CPT will increase from 12 to 14 (from February 17). Flights between DOH and DUR will increase from five to seven, effective March 5, 2026. The Durban service operates via Maputo (MPM) in Mozambique.

Expanded Footprint in Africa

This expansion follows a significant year for Qatar Airways in Africa, marked by collaborations with key carriers on the continent, including Air Algérie (AH), Kenya Airways (KQ), and RwandAir (WB). QR also entered a strategic partnership with Southern Africa’s premium carrier Airlink (4Z) in October 2024.

The airline continues to support key African export sectors, including fresh produce, horticulture, and textiles, by providing reliable belly-hold capacity on passenger aircraft and dedicated freighters. In fact, Qatar Airways Cargo transports more than 6,000 tons of cargo to and from the African continent each week.

These enhancements demonstrate QR's commitment to improving connectivity between South Africa and key markets, including China, Europe, and the USA, facilitating economic and tourism growth in southern Africa.
