Qantas’ First Airbus A321XLR Rolls Out of Paint Shop

DALLAS — The first of 28 Airbus A321XLR ordered by Qantas (QF) has emerged from the paint shop at Airbus’ Hamburg facility.

The aircraft, registered VH-OGA, will later be named Great Ocean Road and is powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, though it was seen without engines at this stage.

The A321XLR is set to play a key role in the Australian flag carrier’s international network, replacing the Boeing 737 on routes to Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands.

The aircraft's extended range and improved fuel efficiency will enable the airline to enhance connectivity and expand its network with greater operational flexibility.

Qantas' A321XLR Cabin Configuration

Passengers aboard QF’s A321XLR will experience a revamped cabin layout. The aircraft features 20 business class seats in a 2-2 configuration and 177 economy seats in a 3-3 arrangement. The first three aircraft, however, will have a slightly higher economy capacity, with 180 seats.

Additionally, travelers can look forward to free inflight WiFi and entertainment streaming through the Qantas Entertainment App, ensuring a more enjoyable onboard experience.

VH-OGA is expected to be delivered in April 2025, marking the beginning of a new era for QF's’ narrowbody international operations. More A321XLR deliveries are to follow.
