DALLAS — London Heathrow Airport (LHR) transported over 7 million passengers in December, ending a record-breaking 2024 that saw 83.9 million pass through the UK hub.
On December 25, LHR saw 160,000 passengers walk through its gates, breaking 2023's Christmas Day record with a 13% traffic increase. December also saw 138,000 tons of cargo passing through LHR, a 10% increase from the year before.
The English hub also reported that 92% of passengers had passed through security checkpoints in less than five minutes, thanks in part to millions invested in upgrading security lines—and resurfacing the southern runway—without operational interruptions.
Moreover, LHR’s top destinations are no surprise, with New York, Los Angeles, Dublin, and Madrid among the top in 2024. Europe’s busiest and most connected hub forecasts 84.2 million passengers in 2025 and plans to invest over £1 billion this year alone.
Comments from London Heathrow CEO
Thomas Woldbye, London Heathrow CEO, said, “Twenty twenty-four was an exciting and a record-breaking year at Heathrow - I'm proud of all my colleagues and our partners who worked so hard to deliver great experiences for more passengers than ever before.
The CEO added, "In 2025, our journey towards better value for our customers will continue by investing in the kind of facilities our passengers and airlines are looking for. We aim to become more innovative to ensure that our airport delivers for the whole of the UK.”
