JetBlue's First Crew Base Outside the Continental US

DALLAS — JetBlue (B6) celebrated the opening of its new crew base at San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), its first outside the continental U.S., creating hundreds of jobs on the island.

JetBlue’s new San Juan crew base will create over 400 jobs in Puerto Rico, with more than 100 pilots and 300 flight attendants assigned by next year.

Located in Terminal A at SJU, the base will enable crew members to start and end trips from the island. This follows B6’s Tech Ops maintenance base opening in San Juan in 2020.

With over 50 daily departures in peak winter periods, B6 says its recent network growth created 70 new jobs, bringing its team to over 800 crewmembers by 2025 across San Juan, Aguadilla, and Ponce.

The airline has served Puerto Rico for over 22 years, flying to 18 destinations from the island.

Comments from JetBlue, Puerto Rico Officials

“We are proud to celebrate this important milestone in Puerto Rico,” said Warren Christie, chief operating officer at JetBlue.

“The new crew base reinforces our commitment to investing in the communities we serve, creating opportunities for crewmembers in San Juan and for those who want to return home to the island, while expanding our network to meet the growing demand for travel to the Caribbean and beyond.”

“We celebrate that JetBlue continues to bet on Puerto Rico. We are proud of this strategic alliance with Puerto Rico, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to the island and its people. Our tourism had record growth numbers over the past four years, and this is one more sign that good news continue for our people,” said Puerto Rico Governor Pedro R. Pierluisi.

JetBlue also launches flights from Puerto Rico’s capital to St. Croix this afternoon, further investing in the Caribbean. The schedule between San Juan (SJU) and St. Croix (STX) is as follows:

  • SJU-STX Flight 2940: 3:00 p.m. – 3:44 p.m.
  • STX-SJU Flight 2941: 4:45 p.m. – 5:35 p.m.
