FORT LAUDERDALE — JetBlue (B6) hosted its annual Fly Like a Girl event on March 7 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, inspiring the next generation of young girls aged 10–14 to explore careers in the airline industry. The carrier welcomed more than 100 participants, strengthening its connection with the community.
The event aims to spark interest in aviation, along with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) topics, among young girls while addressing the male-dominated industry and seeking a more diverse talent pool. “Commercial air travel has a history of being male-dominated, but programs like this open up new aviation horizons for Florida’s young women to explore,” said U.S. Rep. Wasserman Schultz (FL-25).
The airline provided opportunities for young girls to meet and learn from women pilots, engineers, and other crewmembers. B6 hopes for the next generation to see the vast range of career opportunities available in the industry.
JetBlue and South Florida
JetBlue is a major supporter of South Florida’s aviation ecosystem and hosted the program in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where it maintains a large operational presence. The airline is the leading carrier at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), and looks to continue its longstanding commitment to the region.
“Fort Lauderdale has been part of JetBlue’s story since day one with our first flights touching down right here over 26 years ago, and we’re proud to continue investing in the region and its people,” stated Ursula Hurley, president of the JetBlue Foundation and JetBlue’s chief financial officer. “Bringing Fly Like a Girl back to South Florida reflects our continued commitment to the future of Fort Lauderdale as a critical part of our operation, from its people and culture to the aviation infrastructure that helps power our airline forward.”
