JetBlue Extends Flight Suspension to Haiti

DALLAS — JetBlue Airways (B6) will not be flying to Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, for some more time.

A JetBlue spokesperson told the Miami Herald on March 6, 2025, that the airline's flight suspension will continue until June 11, 2025. Previously, the suspension had been set to last until the end of April 2025.

In the same statement to the Miami Herald, a B6 spokesperson also explained, “Due to the ongoing civil unrest in Haiti, we have made the decision to suspend all flights to and from the country. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and adjust our plans as necessary.”

Ongoing Air Travel Ban to the Island

The extension of B6's flight suspension is part of a broader issue affecting air travel to Haiti:

  1. FAA Flight Restrictions: The FAA imposed a ban on U.S. commercial and cargo flights to Haiti in November 2024, which was set to expire on March 12, 2025. This ban was implemented after incidents of gunfire targeting aircraft, including those operated by Spirit Airlines (NK), American Airlines (AA), and B6.
  2. Other Airlines: AA and NK have also indefinitely suspended their flights to Haiti. Currently, Sunrise Airways (S6) is the only carrier connecting Haiti with South Florida via Cap-Haïtien.
  3. Airport Reopening: Despite these suspensions, Haiti's government reopened Toussaint Louverture International Airport in December 2024 after a month-long closure. However, commercial air traffic at the airport remains severely limited.
  4. Security Concerns: The ongoing gang violence and civil unrest in Haiti continue to be major concerns. The U.S. Department of State has issued a "Do Not Travel" advisory for Haiti due to kidnapping, crime, civil unrest, and limited healthcare.
  5. Alternative Airports: In response to the situation in Port-au-Prince, the Haitian government has focused on expanding regional airports. The Antoine-Simon Airport in Les Cayes (CYA) and Jacmel Airport (JAK) have been equipped to receive international flights.
