IndiGo Expands into Malaysia with Three New Services

DALLAS –India’s low-cost carrier (LCC) IndiGo (6E) will expand its flights to Malaysia from southern India with three new services. It will operate two new services from Bengaluru (BLR) and one from Chennai (MAA).

On December 16, the LCC will commence daily direct flights between Bengaluru (BLR) and Langkawi (LGK) and from BLR to Kuala Lumpur (KUL).

Both routes will be operated with an Airbus A320 aircraft. On December 21, the budget airline will launch a daily direct service from MAA to Penang (PEN). The route will also be served with an Airbus A320 aircraft.

Flight Schedule

Bengaluru to Langkawi/Kuala Lumpur:

Flight 6E 1043 departs BLR at 3.40 am (local time) and arrives in LGK at 10.25 am (local time). Then, flight 6E 1044 departs LGK at 11.25 am (local time) and arrives in BLR at 12.55 pm (local time).

Flight 6E 1037 departs BLR at 3.40 am (local time) and arrives in KUL at 2.00 am (local time). Flight 6E 1038 departs KUL at 3.00 am (local time) and arrives in BLR at 5.00 am (local time).

Chennai to Penang:

Flight 6E 1045 departs MAA at 2.15 am (local time) and arrives in PEN at 8.30 am (local time). Flight 6E 1046 departs PEN at 9.30 am (local time) and arrives in MAA at 10.35 am (local time).

New Direct Route

IndiGo is targeting business and leisure travelers with this new PEN service. It will use MAA as a transit hub for passengers traveling from other cities in India, including Mumbai (BOM) and Madurai (IXM). This hub will also serve international travelers from the Middle East.

Currently, passengers from India generally fly to KUL to reach PEN. Most passengers travel by road to Penang from KUL. However, a direct flight from MAA to PEN will benefit these passengers. Penang is indeed an attractive destination for business and leisure travelers in India.

Exploring Airline History Volume I

David H. Stringer, the History Editor for AIRWAYS Magazine, has chronicled the story of the commercial aviation industry with his airline history articles that have appeared in AIRWAYS over two decades. Here, for the first time, is a compilation of those articles.

Subjects A through C are presented in this first of three volumes. Covering topics such as the airlines of Alaska at the time of statehood and Canada's regional airlines of the 1960s, the individual histories of such carriers as Allegheny, American, Braniff, and Continental are also included in Volume One.
