Icelandair Joins JFK Terminal 6 for Operations in 2026

NEW YORK — Icelandair (FI) has become the 15th international carrier to announce future operations from John F. Kennedy International Airport’s (JFK) new Terminal 6, currently under development by JFK Millennium Partners (JMP).

The move positions FI alongside partner JetBlue (B6) and a roster of global carriers including Lufthansa (LH), SWISS (LX), Air Canada (AC), and ANA (NH), when T6 begins phased openings in 2026. FI, which offers up to two daily flights to Reykjavik on two-cabin aircraft, will benefit from direct connectivity with JetBlue at neighboring Terminal 5, linked to T6 via an airside connection.

Terminal 6 is a central component of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey’s US$19 billion JFK transformation program. Once complete in 2028, the facility will feature 10 gates—nine widebody capable—state-of-the-art screening and baggage systems, extensive lounge offerings, and over 100,000 sq. ft. of dining, retail, and amenities. The terminal is also targeting multiple sustainability certifications, incorporating solar power, efficient operations, and locally sourced building materials.

“Our long-standing partnership with FI is entering an exciting new phase at T6,” said Steve Thody, CEO of JFK Millennium Partners. “We look forward to welcoming their passengers to a digital-first, boutique terminal experience designed for seamless connections and comfort.”
