Hainan Airlines Welcomes Its First Airbus A330neo

DALLAS – Hainan Airlines (HU) has taken delivery of its first Airbus A330-900 aircraft, registration B-32MU. The A330neo was ferried from Toulouse-Blagnac (TLS  )to Haikou (HAK) in the Republic of China.

The new next-generation aircraft offers improved sustainability, cost savings for the carrier, and a better customer experience for passengers.

This is, in fact, not the first time HU has ordered the Airbus A330. The carrier already has numerous A330s in its fleet. It currently operates both A330-200s and A330-300s. These, however, are previous-generation models.

The airline's fleet currently includes eight A320neo, two A321neo, five A330-200s, 22 A330-300s, 125 Boeing 737-800s, 22 737-8s, nine 787-8s, and 28 787-9s.

This wide-body aircraft is particularly useful to HU for operating long-haul services. Though this new aircraft is the first of the type for the carrier, more may be on order for the airline.

Scramble.nl reports that at least three more of the type have been identified for HU. Last year HU was reported to be reviewing its widebody fleet. Scramble reports that HU was considering new A330-900 aircraft. However, no official order was announced by the airline or the European aircraft manufacturer.

That said, Airbus reportedly has 22 A330-900 orders from unnamed customers.
