SEATTLE — Frontier Airlines (F9) is halting operations at Paine Field International Airport in Seattle (PAE) in early January, concluding its brief foray at the airport, which began in June of last year, when it offered flights twice weekly on routes including Denver, Las Vegas, and Phoenix.
The Seattle Times reports that the ULC carrier had hoped to capitalize on providing an alternative airport for travelers heading to or passing through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), which is one of the busiest airports in the nation.
The PAE routes were expected to carry a total of 100,000 annual passengers at the Propeller Airports-operated terminal. But F9 explained the move is the result of its regular network review, saying that all routes are cycled periodically. The airline, however, stated that it may consider going back to PAE.
Paine Field Consequences
This means Alaska Airlines (AS) is now the only major airline operating out of PAE, serving destinations including California cities, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Honolulu. According to the airport management, demand has not been affected. Passengers can still connect to their respective destinations via Alaska Airlines.
Frontier will continue operating from SEA to Denver, Las Vegas, and Phoenix.
