DALLAS — El Al (LY) has announced an order for 12 additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners, valued at around US$1.5 billlion. The order follows LY’s plans to expand long-haul capacity after strengthening itself in the Israeli market during the wars in Gaza and Iran.
The airline is exercising options to purchase six more Boeing 787-9s and converting four previously planned aircraft to the 787-10. Aircraft deliveries are expected between 2030 and 2032, with LY additionally securing options for six 787 for delivery between 2033 and 2035.
Current Dreamliner operations
The Israeli carrier currently operates 17 Boeing 787s and expects to have 28 by the end of the decade. The order extends LY’s long-standing commitment to an all-Boeing fleet.
This latest order follows previous Boeing deals and the company's commitment to upgrading aircraft types. In 2016, LY signed a $1.25B deal for fifteen 787s initially. Three more 787-9 options were exercised in 2024, along with the signing of a separate agreement for up to 30 737 MAX aircraft, valued at up to $2.5B.
