ZURICH — Switzerland’s leading leisure travel airline, Edelweiss (WK), has welcomed the second Airbus A350-900 to its fleet.
The aircraft registered as HB-IHC was christened as “Piz Palü,” continuing the airline's tradition of naming its aircraft after Swiss regions, towns, or mountains where the Edelweiss flower grows.
Edelweiss received its first Airbus A350 in March 2025, making it the first Swiss airline to have the latest-generation Airbus widebody. “The airline plans to welcome two more Airbus A350-900s this year, with the final two arriving in the second half of next year,” said David Birrer, Chief Operating Officer at Edelweiss.

The name “Piz Palü” was unveiled during a ceremony by David Birrer and Emilio Bianchi, Board Member of Corvatsch Diavolezza Lagalb. “Piz Palü will now travel the world on an aircraft, bringing our alpine homeland to the skies in a very special way,” said Bianchi, expressing his joy on the occasion.

Later during the event, Edelweiss received a picture of Piz Palü from the region, underlining the significance of the name and long-standing partnership.

The aircraft consists of 339 seats, with 246 seats in the Economy, 63 Economy Max and 30 Business class. The first four A350s acquired by WK were previously operated by LATAM.
“The Airbus A350 marks a new era for Edelweiss: it’s quieter, more efficient, and more comfortable. That our second A350 also bears the name of an Engadin Mountain is no coincidence – this region stands for natural beauty, strength, and vision like no other. Qualities that are embodied by our newest fleet member.”, added David Birrer.
