PANAMÁ CITY — Panamanian flag carrier Copa Airlines (CM) has made a major commitment with Boeing for 40 Boeing 737s, with options for another 20.
The airline currently operates 38 Boeing 737 MAX jets between the -8 and -9 variants, with 16 more on the way, alongside 15 737-10s, bringing its MAX fleet to 69 planes.
Today’s order brings the expected MAX fleet to 109, or 129 including options. Variants for today’s order have not yet been announced, as the airline will select between the -8, -9, and -10 at a later date based on operational requirements.
The deal was signed today in Panamá City at a gathering of the heads of Copa Airlines, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and General Electric Aerospace, as well as the President of Panamá, José Raúl Mulino.

The aircraft ordered today are expected to be delivered from 2030 to 2034.
Copa Airlines serves 88 destinations in 32 countries across the Americas from its hub at Tocumen International Airport (PTY), with a fleet of 106 aircraft, comprising Boeing 737-700s, 737-800s, 737-8s, 737-9s, and a 737-800BCF (Boeing Converted Freighter).
