DALLAS — Avianca (AV) has announced an update to its fare conditions for tickets purchased on or after January 27, 2026. Effective immediately, Light fares on international flights across the Americas will include one personal item and one carry-on bag weighing up to 10 kg.
This update is incorporated into the overall product offering, while additional services will remain available as optional add-ons based on customer preference.
On domestic routes, AV will continue to offer the Basic fare, which includes one personal item, maintaining a differentiated fare structure tailored to the specific characteristics of these markets.
This update builds on several enhancements introduced by the airline throughout 2026, including the expansion of Business Class Americas across its entire network—covering domestic flights in Colombia, Ecuador, and Guatemala—as well as improvements to ground services such as Insignia by Avianca check-in, the renovation of VIP lounges, and the progressive rollout of onboard Wi-Fi connectivity.
“We continue to evolve our value proposition to offer clear and competitive options that align with different travel needs,” said Otto Gergye, Avianca’s chief commercial officer. “The inclusion of carry-on baggage in the Light fare for international flights is part of that process and integrates seamlessly with the rest of the product attributes.”
Fare conditions apply based on the ticket purchase date and do not affect benefits associated with other fare types. Tickets with the updated conditions are now available through avianca.com, the Avianca mobile app, the Contact Center, and travel agencies.
Avianca operates more than 155 routes and over 700 daily flights using a fleet of 140 Airbus A320 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, connecting more than 80 destinations across more than 25 countries in the Americas and Europe. In 2024, the airline carried nearly 38 million passengers on more than 258,000 flights.
