DALLAS — Today, ANA All Nippon Airways (NH), Japan’s largest airline, inaugurated its nonstop flight from Milan Malpensa International Airport (MXP) to Tokyo-Haneda International Airport (HND), operating three times a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.
Previously, flag carrier Japan Airlines (JL) operated a regularly scheduled nonstop Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) to MXP route using a Boeing 747-400 until 2010.
Alitalia also served the MXP-NRT route, initially with the Boeing 777-200ER and later transitioning to the Airbus A330-200 during the route's final stages until 2019.
With the new ANA route from HND, MXP once again welcomes a Japanese airline after 14 years, making Tokyo "reachable nonstop" for the first time via the Haneda hub.
ANA's Boeing 787-9 aircraft, seating 215 passengers (48 in Business, 21 in Premium Economy, and 146 in Economy), lands early morning at HND, which is 20 minutes from the city center and well-connected to Tokyo’s transportation network.
Passengers can continue their journey with connecting flights to various ANA domestic destinations, including Osaka, Sapporo, Okinawa, and Fukuoka, or other Asia-Pacific locations.

Comments from Airline, Airport Officials
“We are truly delighted to launch our first nonstop flight from Italy to Japan,” said Shinichi Inoue, President and CEO of ANA. “Milan is a key European destination for both business and leisure travel and serves as a gateway to Italy for Japanese travelers. Meanwhile, Japan is extremely popular among Italians – currently the fourth-largest market in Europe in terms of entries to the Land of the Rising Sun."
“We are pleased to welcome ANA to Malpensa,” said Luigi Battuello, Chief Commercial Officer of SEA Milan Airports. “ANA is one of the world’s most prestigious airlines, and its decision to establish a route from Milan Malpensa further underscores the industry’s strong interest in the Milan and Northern Italy catchment area."
Apart from Japan, MXP, the largest airport in northern Italy and the second busiest in the country, is the only airport in Milan that connects to and from the US.
