DALLAS — Alaska Airlines (AS) announced today that it will significantly expand its Oregon service, introducing three new year-round nonstop routes beginning May 15, 2025.
The airline will launch its first-ever daily service between Portland and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), resume twice-daily flights between Portland and Eugene, and establish a new connection between Medford and San Diego.
The Portland-Houston route marks Alaska's third nonstop service from Portland to Texas, joining existing routes to Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin. The flight will depart Portland at 10:30 a.m. and leave Houston just before 6 p.m.
Alaska Airlines has optimized flight times for the Portland-Eugene service to accommodate connecting flights through Portland and day trips, with an early 5:30 a.m. departure from Eugene and a late 9:55 p.m. return flight.
The airline is also strengthening its presence in southern Oregon, adding the Medford-San Diego route and increasing Portland-Medford service from once to four times daily. Additionally, the Portland-Redmond route will now operate year-round with three daily flights.
"We're based in Seattle, but Portland is a second home for us where we've been the largest carrier for more than 20 years," said Kirsten Amrine, Vice President of Network Planning and Revenue Management at Alaska Airlines. The airline operates over 100 daily departures to 58 nonstop destinations from Portland, including four international routes.
The airlines notes that all new routes will be serviced by Boeing 737 or E175 aircraft, the latter operated by Horizon Air (QX), and tickets can now be purchased on alaskaair.com. The E175 aircraft features three service classes with no middle seats, and the airline recently upgraded its fleet to add 400,000 Premium Class seats annually.
