JOHANNESBURG — Airlink (4Z) will launch direct flights between Cape Town (CPT) and Mauritius (MRU) later this year.
South Africa's independently-owned airline, 4Z, will offer two weekly flights between Cape Town and Mauritius from October 2.
Airlink will operate the route with new Embraer E195-E2 jets. These aircraft accommodate 124 passengers in a two-class cabin configuration, with 12 seats in business class and 112 in economy.
“Our new flagship aircraft, the E195-E2, makes it possible for Airlink to conveniently connect Cape Town with Mauritius. Cape Town is also an important source market and connecting hub for leisure and business travel wanting to travel to the island while avoiding the hassle and additional time connecting in Johannesburg,” said de Villiers Engelbrecht, Airlink CEO.
Indian island expansion
Airlink is growing its footprint across the Indian Ocean. It already flies to islands in the Mozambique Channel and to Madagascar. This new service is indeed 4Z's first routing between South Africa and Mauritius.
The Johannesburg (JNB) based airline will thus operate non-stop flights to two additional iconic tourist destinations in the Indian Ocean before the end of this year.
Last week, it launched year-round flights between Johannesburg (JNB) and Zanzibar (ZNZ). In October, Airlink will also introduce flights between CPT and ZNZ. Cape Town is the carrier's second hub, with growing passenger traffic from both domestic and international services.
In addition to its domestic operations in South Africa, 4Z offers scheduled services to various destinations across the African continent and to St Helena (HLE) in the Atlantic Ocean.
