MONTREÁL — Air Canada (AC) will suspend flights to New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Montreal Trudeau (YUL) from June 1 to October 24. Service is scheduled to resume on October 25.
According to montrealgazette.com, he suspension is due to rising jet fuel prices impacting the viability of certain transborder routes.
Fuel spike forces network cuts
Air Canada stated that jet fuel prices have doubled since the onset of the Iran conflict, making some lower-profit routes unsustainable. The airline continues to review its network and adjust service where margins are insufficient.
The suspension applies only to JFK. Air Canada will continue serving New York through LaGuardia (LGA) and Newark Liberty (EWR), maintaining 34 daily flights from six Canadian cities. Customers booked on affected JFK flights will be offered alternative travel options.
This decision reflects a broader industry response to rising fuel costs, as airlines reduce schedules, increase fares, or reassess marginal routes. For Air Canada, suspending JFK service demonstrates how rapidly fuel price spikes can impact key business markets during the peak summer season.
