Qantas to Debut Next-generation Flight Experience

DALLAS — Qantas (QF) has announced the launch of an upgraded inflight experience on board its Boeing 737 fleet.

Australia’s flag carrier says passengers will benefit from new seats, refreshed cabins, and larger overhead storage space on its Boeing 737 aircraft. However, the upgrades will not be available for another two years. While QF will take delivery of several new Boeing 737s, it has also decided to refurbish the interiors of its existing 737s.

“A next-generation inflight experience is coming for our Boeing 737s. With the arrival of new aircraft across our wider fleet renewal program, we’re also investing in the cabins of our existing fleet to make them look and feel like new.” Qantas said.

Refurb for Existing Boeing 737s

The Mascot-based airline will retrofit over 40 of its existing 737s with new, larger seats in the business and economy cabins. Larger overhead storage bins will also be installed in these aircraft. In addition, other enhancements will be made to ensure that the cabins offer an updated look and feel.

“From 2027, we’ll refurbish 42 aircraft in our 737 fleet with new business and economy seats and larger overhead lockers. The cabins of our new and upgraded aircraft will help transform the flying experience and consistently deliver a great journey for our customers, " the airline said.

According to aerotime.aero, data shows Virgin Australia (VA) has surpassed QF as Australia’s dominant domestic airline. This was unveiled through data published by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Last year, VA outdid QF regarding passenger volumes on internal flights within Australia throughout 2024. The enhancements to QF’s 737 fleet are set to usher in added passenger comfort, thus enabling the airline to compete with airlines operating services on narrow-body operated aircraft.
