JFK Seeks Ground Handling for New Terminal One

DALLAS — The New Terminal One (NTO) at JFK has issued two requests for proposals (RFPs) from ground-handling service firms. The RFPs seek two providers of ground-handling services above the wing and two below the wing.

The core responsibilities of the two above-the-wing ground handling service providers appointed by NTO will include passenger and baggage check-in, boarding, and flight escort services, operating the baggage service office (BSO), and assisting passengers in the re-check area. They will also meet arriving flights and assist during irregular operations.

The second RFP invites proposals for two below-the-wing ground-handling service providers to deliver effective service management solutions. These solutions include providing fully trained and experienced labor service and facilitating safe, smooth, and efficient operations for customer airlines, passengers, service providers, and other stakeholders. They also utilize electric ground support equipment (eGSE) for aircraft servicing and support.

The New Terminal One vice president of operations Marisa Von Wieding, said, “We are seeking innovative partners who share our vision of delivering an extraordinary guest experience.”

“The selected providers will be instrumental in setting new standards for airport operations and maintaining the New Terminal One’s position as a global leader in the aviation industry.”

About the NTO at JFK

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey began its US$19 billion transformation of John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in 2022, with the construction of The New Terminal One (NTO) starting in the summer of the same year.

Construction is organized in three phases. The first phase includes new departure and arrival halls and an initial set of new gates. While the entire Terminal is expected to be operational by 2030, the first gates will allow passengers to board from the new building as early as 2026.

The project's companies aim to create 10,000 jobs, including 6,000 construction positions. This new terminal will also be the largest at the airport, featuring 23 gates.

The New Terminal One will include two new terminals, modernizing and expanding two existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a new, simplified roadway network.
