DALLAS — Hawaiian Airlines (HA) is discontinuing its thrice-weekly nonstop service from Honolulu International Airport (HNL) to Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) so it can redeploy aircraft elsewhere in its network.
A spokesperson for the airline confirmed to Airline Geeks that the move will be effective March 27, 2025, but that it would "serve Honolulu-Austin via one-stop connections in San Diego, Seattle, and our other gateways."
The move comes as capacity changes take shape following the airline's merger with Alaska Airlines (AS). Starting April 22, HA will add a permanent 2nd daily Honolulu (HNL) to Seattle (SEA) flight, while AS will decrease its Honolulu (HNL) to Seattle (SEA) route from 5x to 4x daily flights.
Conversely, starting June 12, HA will cancel its Kahului (OGG) to San Diego (SAN) route, while AS will add a 2nd daily Kahului (OGG) to San Diego (SAN) flight.
So, together with the AUS nonstop discontinuation, which is currently operated by its A330, the OGG-SAN exit signals a strengthening of HA's Seattle operation with the same aircraft type.
