DALLAS – Emirates SkyCargo (EK) has ordered five additional Boeing 777 freighter aircraft, with immediate delivery between 2025 and 2026. The US$ 1 billion order will bring EK’s total wide-body aircraft order book to 315.
The order comes on the heels of a stellar first quarter for the cargo arm in the 2024-25 financial year. The cargo division has reported consistently high load factors, with tonnage surpassing even pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Increased Capacity for Key Markets
The new Boeing 777Fs will play a crucial role in the Dubai (DXB) based carrier’s growth strategy. Once operational, these new aircraft will provide a 30% increase in available main deck cargo capacity. This additional space will allow EK to cater to rising demand in key markets and deliver enhanced service to its global customer base.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group emphasized the strategic importance of this investment.
“Demand for our world-class product and services is growing exponentially. This investment in additional Boeing 777 capacity enables us to cater to customer demand and marks a step forward on our long-term strategic growth plan,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.
The addition of the new freighters also aligns with the carrier’s dedication to operating a young and efficient fleet. As the new aircraft enter service, older freighters will be retired, further solidifying this commitment.

A Look Ahead
Emirates SkyCargo is not resting on its laurels. EK’s boss also highlighted plans for a comprehensive assessment of the future freighter fleet. This assessment aims to encompass all aircraft options, ensuring the cargo arm remains optimally equipped to meet the evolving demands of the airfreight market.
Emirates SkyCargo will continue to leverage the strength of both its freighter and passenger fleet. In addition to the newly ordered 777Fs, ten 777-300ER passenger aircraft are currently being converted into freighters.
This combined approach will create a robust fleet of 17 freighter aircraft by the end of 2025. This diverse fleet, encompassing 777s, 777Fs, 747Fs, A350s, and A380s, allows EK to offer unmatched flexibility and efficient cargo movement worldwide.
