Breeze Airways Reports First Quarterly Profit

DALLAS— Low-cost carrier (LCC) Breeze Airways (MX) achieved profitability in the fourth quarter of 2024, a significant milestone since its launch in 2021.

Breeze is known for its unique point-to-point model, which involves connecting underserved markets directly, rather than through major hubs.

The Utah-based LCC started operating short-haul routes with a few Embraer Jets but has transitioned to a fleet of Airbus A220. The move prioritized efficiency and expanded the airline's route network across the U.S.

Despite operating at a loss for the whole year, MX saw a significant revenue increase of 78 % in 2024 compared to the previous year. The Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC)-based airline added 29 destinations and expanded capacity by over 52 % in 2024.

Breeze was founded by serial entrepreneur David Neeleman, founder of JetBlue (B6) and Azul (AD) and ran TAP Air Portugal (TP) through the Atlantic Gateway consortium from 205 to 2021.

“We have grown and expanded Breeze at an unprecedented rate while establishing a robust presence in dozens of underserved markets across the US,” Neelman remarked for the occasion.

Breeze has been described as a game-changer for underserved markets. Its Premium LCC model focuses on smaller cities, and about 90% of its routes have no nonstop competition.

Will Breeze continue to revolutionize the aviation industry? Only time will tell. But this profitability milestone is a clear sign of the airline's promising future.
