Alaska Airlines Pulls out of Dallas Love Field

DALLAS – Seattle-based carrier Alaska Airlines (AS) says it will stop flying out of DAL in order to consolidate its regional operations at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). 

The carrier will operate its last flight out of Love Field on May 14, 2025.

 “DFW is centrally located with easy access to all points across the Dallas Metroplex, and allows our guests to connect beyond Dallas to cities in the Midwest and along the East Coast with our codeshare partner American Airlines,” the airline said in a statement.

Another Piece of the VX Merger Severed

Alaska’s departure from DAL comes more than 10 years after Virgin America (VX) launched coast-to-coast flights to most major U.S. hubs in October 2014. AS acquired VX in 2016 and began operating at DAL in September 2017.

Today AS operates five flights per week between DAL and SeaTac International Airport (SEA). Previously, AS operated up to 14 daily flights from DAL to various destinations including Seattle (SEA), Portland (PDX), San Francisco (SFO) and Los Angeles (LAX).

However, AS has shrunk its presence at DAL in recent years, after entering a codeshare agreement with American Airlines (AA), which is based at Dallas’ primary hub, DFW.

Alaska is authorized to use just two gates at DAL, which federal law restricts to 20 gates. The airline has also been leasing some of its space to Delta Air Lines (DL), which operates 14 daily round-trips from DAL to its hub in Atlanta (ATL). It is also worth noting that Southwest Airlines’ (WN) headquarters is adjacent to DAL.

Dallas Morning News reports that passengers holding AS flight bookings after May 14 will be rebooked onto flights out of DFW.
