Kennedy International Airport (JFK), which did not secure a position on the list. However, this does not necessarily reflect JFK's connectivity or importance. It can be attributed to the fact that New York City is served by multiple major airports, including Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
These additional airports in the New York metropolitan area likely dispersed the unique destinations across multiple airports, impacting JFK's ranking in the data obtained from CIRIUM.
Furthermore, the rankings also shed light on the absence of airports from the Asia-Pacific region. This can be attributed to various factors, including the relatively fewer unique destinations than North America and Europe and the region's regulatory landscape.
The Asia-Pacific region often faces restrictions due to the absence of open skies agreements and the need for bilateral traffic rights. These factors limit the connectivity and number of destinations served by airports in the region.
In contrast, the Middle East region boasts several prominent aviation hubs, although only one airport made it into the rankings. DXB emerged as a significant player with its extensive connectivity and an impressive number of unique destinations, thanks to the strong presence of EK and its extensive global network. DXB attracts travelers from around the world, connecting them to various destinations.
It's worth noting that the Middle East region is home to other notable airports, such as Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) and Hamad International Airport in Doha (DOH). However, they did not rank within the list of most-connected airports in 2022.
